BBA 301: The Global Marketplace

Overview

The Internet is one of the most exciting and dynamic areas in business. It is challenging, however, because the online environment possesses unique characteristics that distinguish it in significant ways from traditional markets or opportunities.

This course will focus on the eMarketplace and its impact on conducting business in an online environment. In your course project, you will explore the relevant issues and concepts that surround business on the Internet for a selected industry/organization of your choice.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Examine the major eBusiness trends that have transformed how business is conducted.
  • Assess the impact of the Internet economy on the global marketplace; and examine the opportunities and challenges of the eMarketplace, primarily in the B2B landscape.
  • Discuss different business models and classifications of the eMarketplace; and understand the Internet customer, from both a consumer and business perspective, in order to effectively market both traditional and virtual products and services.
  • Assess an industry's major players to establish the players' relative competitive positions within the industry based on such things as sustainability, the characteristics of the eMarketplace, and their business models.
  • Discuss new channels of distribution and supply-chain dynamics that the Internet has created.
  • Identify and make recommendations for addressing the challenges of building a supply chain in an internet-based business environment.
  • Examine and make recommendations on strategic marketing and organizational changes that decision makers should address in order to be successful in their industry.
  • Examine the environmental forces affecting the global eMarketplace.
  • Make recommendations on a metrics for measuring performance of organizations conducting business in the eMarketplace.
