BC 372: Intercultural Communication

Overview

In a global marketplace, how do the dynamics of intercultural communications influence commercial and political decision making? This course takes an interdisciplinary approach to introduce you to key concepts of intercultural communications, including the principles of good practice in intercultural communications and the critical issues of intercultural communications in commercial and political contexts. Students complete self-assessments throughout the course and analyze areas of strengths/weaknesses within the scope of intercultural communications to determine recommendations for improvement.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Define cultural globalization and recognize that this phenomenon has both positive and negative consequences.
  • Define cultural localization and recognize its historic roots and its contemporary relationship with cultural globalization.
  • Explain major trends in intercultural communication, and analyze the role of verbal, non-verbal, and contextual factors in intercultural communication.
  • Analyze international and intercultural communication regarding business enterprises and geopolitical relations.
