EDU 694: Web and Multimedia Authoring for Online Courses

Overview

This course focuses specifically on the development process for creating web-based materials for online courses. This course also provides instruction and experience in planning and developing a website and implementing it on a server. In the process, you will learn the basics of HTML, produce a simple website, manipulate simple graphics, develop a cascading stylesheet, create multimedia objects, and use FTP to interact with a server. These experiences and skills provide a sufficient background to develop basic educational web-based materials, and to work with a development team to produce sophisticated educational or training systems.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Identify and describe a basic set of tools for creating websites.
  • Develop a plan describing the structure and navigation of a training or education website.
  • Develop a style guide and cascading style sheet for a training or education website.
  • Describe the major considerations for usability and accessibility of websites.
  • Develop a website with multiple interlinked pages, links to external web resources, simple graphics, and at least one interactive form.
  • Create multimedia objects for use in websites.
